Kiko Goats

Why Kikos?

The valley is a very tough enviroment because there are no strong winters here, thus parasites thrive. Our ranch is also located about 30 miles from the coast, so most days can be rather humid and hot.

This climate is the perfect breeding ground for worms and coccidia, thus we knew that we would need to find a very hardy goat to raise. During our search I came across the Kikos, and read about their parasite resistance, fast growth, and great mothering. Something the most popular goat down here, the Boer, lacks.

We don’t raise out goats for the show ring, but we are doing everything we can to raise the hardiest goats around!

How We Manage Them

Kiko goats in Texas

We raise our Kiko goats with as much of a hands off approach as we can manage.  All of our does are raised on pasture and provided with free choice minerals and mineral tubs during kidding season.  Other than that they have access to pasture everyday and we keep a round bale in our over night pen.

For parasites we only worm when neccesary, and when we do we use a combonation or three wormers.  Any do that needs to be wormed more than once a year will find their way out of our herd. We are only looking to pass down the best genetics for parasite resistance.

Our bucks are kept in a large pen inside our over night pen. They are given minerals and hay everyday. We quit feeding grain to our goats about a year and a half ago.
